GLAAD Demands CNN Fire Roland Martin For "Anti-Gay" Tweets During Super Bowl

GLAAD is calling for the termination of CNN's Roland Martin after comments he made on Twitter during the Super Bowl. Do you feel they have serious reason to be mad or are they just making a mountain out of a molehill? Here are the details...

GLAAD is calling on CNN to fire Roland Martin following a series of Tweets Sunday night during the Super Bowl.

Following H&M’s Super Bowl commercial featuring soccer player David Beckham, CNN’s Roland Martin tweeted to almost 95,000 followers:
If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him! #superbowl
Roland Martin is a regular guest on CNN and a commentator on TV One, a news network available in over 36 million homes.
GLAAD wrote:
.@rolandsmartin Advocates of gay bashing have no place at @CNN #SuperBowl #LGBT
Martin replied:
@glaad @CNN well you’re clearly out of touch and clueless with what I tweeted. Way to assume, but you’re way off base
Earlier today Martin posted to his Facebook fan page:
Who the hell was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass
Since making the comments Martin has suggested his tweet regarding David Beckham was intended for soccer fans. He did not respond to a question from Metro Weekly about why, if the tweet was about soccer and not based in anti-gay sentiment, he only referenced his concern about “a dude … hyped” about the ad and not any soccer fan. No special interest group should believe they have that much power to get someone fired for their personal opinion. His tweets made no mention or implication of "gay bashing" or "anti gay" feelings. Roland Martin's comments seemed to be rooted in masculinity. Martin questioning masculinity does not mean he is "gay bashing". If he had made these remarks on the air as he is representing CNN or TV One then I could understand the uproar. However, he posted these tweets on his personal Twitter; everyone is entitled to their opinion and Martin is no different even if he is on television. What happened to Freedom of Speech?? His personal thoughts, feelings, etc are his own and do no reflect that of his employer(s). He may have thousands of followers on Twitter but his thousands of followers also have minds of their own. His tweets during the Super Bowl will not make any of his followers turn into "gay bashers". The only thing I will say is that he was trying to be funny with his tweets but failed. I do think Martin tried to cover up what he really meant with his tweets...there was no way he was addressing his comments to soccer fans. He shouldn't back down from what he said. I can almost 100% say Martin was not trying to offend anyone with those tweets. This is nothing that should cost this man his job. It's really sad when we are in the days where you can't even express your own views because of fear you will end up getting sued or attacked.

Gays are always complaining about something, and everyone seems to cater to them because they don't want to seem Anti-Gay... They are people just like the rest of us, people sometimes say things you disagree with, but just like the rest of us, you deal with it...
