Yesterday we all found out CNN suspended Roland Martin over what GLAAD claimed to be "gay bashing" Tweets. (GLAAD Demands CNN Fire Roland Martin For "Anti-Gay" Tweets During Super Bowl)
Now, it appears that traditional values group One Million Moms is upset that JCPenney chose openly gay TV host Ellen DeGeneres as their spokesperson. They are asking for JCPenney to remove DeGeneres as spokesperson but the retail store is standing by their decision.
One Million Moms: "The majority of JC Penney shoppers will be offended and choose to no longer shop there. ... By jumping on the pro-gay bandwagon, JC Penney is attempting to gain a new target market and in the process will lose customers with traditional values that have been faithful to them over all these years."
The group is asking for supporters to make phone calls to the company demanding they drop DeGeneres.
JCPenney is standing by their decision.
As long as JCPenney and/or DeGeneres does not use ads or commercials to verbally promote homosexuality then I don't understand the huge uproar from One Million Moms. I would agree that JCPenney, as a company, should not have a position on homosexuality; it is not their place as a retail store. However, a company can hire who they like to represent them. If you do not support JCPenney or DeGeneres simply do not shop at their store anymore. It would be best for special interest groups to pick and choose their battles wisely because it is a turnoff from their message when they fight something so insignificant. You never have to agree with someone's lifestyle but there is such a thing as tolerance..
