Here we go again with the racially insensitive remarks...this time from a Democratic Congressman. Details from mediaite.comRep. Jim Moran (D-VA) stopped by MSNBC yesterday, where he weighed in on Rep. Allen West‘s recent comments urging President Obama and other Democratic leaders to take their message “to the North Pole, but get the hell out of the United States of America.”
Moran told host Martin Bashir that West and Arizona governor Jan Brewer reminded him of the hyenas from The Lion King.
“People like Mr. West,” Moran told Bashir, “and Governor Brewer, and so on — particularly Mr. West — is not only not representative of the African-American community or of the Republican Party, let alone of the American public. So what he says really is of little or no consequence, but it’s unfortunate.”President Obama is, he added, our Lion King.
I hope people really caught what Jim Moran was saying. Allen West does not represent the African American community? How is that the case Mr. Moran? Allen West is a Black American.
Since when does a white man know anything about "being" black? I didn't know there a handbook on 'How To Be Black'. I was also unaware there were specific guidelines that we as Blacks must follow. I thought in order to be Black you simply..HAD TO BE BORN BLACK (of African descent). Why does Congressman Jim Moran feel so comfortable making these remarks? He personally attacked Lieutenant Colonel Allen West simply because he is not a Democrat. Newsflash, race is not everyone's major factor when it comes to voting. What about one's faith, economic status, gender? Moran is implying that with being Black, you not only should be a member of a certain political party, he also implies that there are already certain ways you should act, speak, live, etc. Is that not racist? Moran comes from a wealthy up bringing and no military service, so should I expect him to be Republican? Should I call him greedy and a racist? No.
Republican candidates Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich have come under attack in recent months for making racially insensitive remarks. I wonder if the media and Black leaders will "rise" up and convict Moran for the same. When it comes to white men making racially insensitive remarks on the Black community, people like Al Sharpton will call them every name in the book, but when it comes to defending Republican black men why are they so quiet? Are they not members of Black America? No wonder why some members of the white community feel they are entitled to make such comments. We don't even defend our own simply because of political party.
